#28 Breaking Down The Big Epics

Symptom: Epic stories are on the product backlog and are not being broken down leaving the backlog stagnant and smelling.

Probable Cause: The epics are most likely not being broken down actively.

Suggested Resolution: Why not set up a regular session to break down epics? Invite relevant and willing parties to the session and consider only one or two stories that need to be broken down. If you keep the sessions short and sharp they should provide high value to the team and can be used as a break between heavy coding sessions.

A little bit and often can go a long way to keeping your product backlog healthy and fresh.
